Door and Window Contact Sensors //

Smart Door and Window Contact Sensors

If you can't be everywhere in your facility at once, but still need to know how it operates and what changes within it, a smart door sensor will alert you any time a monitored door is open and closed, giving you total oversight. Similarly, a smart window sensor will do the same, which adds an extra layer of security in the event of a break-in or unauthorised entry.

In building automation systems, smart door and window sensors can be interlinked with your HVAC systems or heating to regulate temperature or airflow. Ideal for offices and retail complexes, or anywhere with sensitive equipment, goods, or information, these smart contact sensors afford complete peace of mind.

FAQ

Why would you use a door contact sensor?

You might use a smart door contact sensor

How do door sensors work?

Smart door contact sensors work by a two-part magnetic system where a magnet and a sensor work in tandem to detect opening and closing events. One part is fixed to the door and the other part is fixed to the frame. A magnetic field determines their proximity to one another. An internal reed switch within the sensor is opened when it separates from the magnet, sending a signal to the panel which allows facility managers to know when a door has been opened or closed so they can take appropriate action.

What is the difference between a door contact and magnetic contact?

A smart door contact will utilise a magnet within its set-up but this is not wholly a magnetic contact. Smart door contacts will provide instant alerts when doors are opened or tampered with, whereas magnetic contacts give secure holding force to prevent unauthorised access; they won't necessarily alert you of a breach, however.
